Why did the shadows move and change shape? A shadow is the shape of a thing that blocks a light from its opposite side. In the booklet, the light came from the sun. As the sun moves across the sky from the left to the right, the shadow will swing in the opposite direction, from right to left. The shadows changed shape for a similar reason. The lower the sun is compared to the tree, the longer its shadow will be. The higher, the smaller it will be. It was the same for the cows' shadows.
Why did the cows move to be in the shade? Shade is the space between a shadow and the light it blocks. Because a shadow blocks heat as well as light, the space in the shade is usually cooler. Animals can cool off by moving into shade and warm up by moving out of it.
Why was there a shadow at night? Even the moon has enough light to make a shadow.
